| My mother's
birthday.
She would have been 75 today.
Colorful Indian blankets Mom planted in her
garden are bright reminders of the
beauty she brought to our lives.
They bloom in mid-summer and usually
linger well into fall ... though our early
snow may send them to sleep
sooner than usual, this year. |

It is always a blessing to meet kindred
spirits, and this time was no exception. My friend Jeanne and I agreed to meet Arvy
Buinauskas at Lage's Junction, following email introductions. Arvy is a photographer from Lithuania, who
comes to the Great Basin regularly, to study Bristlecone pines.
It was a pleasant day, despite an absence
of wild horses on the horizon. I hope to see more of Arvy before he
returns home, next month. |

Every now and then, it's good to get up early

The day was gentle, tenderly caressed by
feathery soft clouds. Sundown made the softest splash. |

| Grey Eagle Mine -
Cherry Creek Mountain Range |

One never knows what the day -- or
evening --
will
bring, out in the wilds of rural Nevada.
This night, Cherry Creekers
were treated to
a surprise performance by our favorite local
musical celebrity, Freddie Anderson.

05 September
The calendar does not say so, but Autumn
arrived today.
Daybreak came wrapped in a softly
deceptive robe of mist; thick, grey, and heavy; still moist from last
night's shower. There was a crispness to the morning, and that fragrance
the lady wears when summer succumbs to fall. Sweet and pungent
juniper, pine, and sage mingling with something dusky, like a hint of
wood smoke soon to spark. An exotic aroma that stirs up memories
......
It felt like snow, this morning, and I
would not have been surprised to see some, but it did not fall. Today.
